So you want to work at Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS)? Well, join the club. What might make you stand out is a terrific interview, should you get one. Goldman has for a while now offered some interviewing "Tips & Hints" in a video on its site, designed to improve your performance "in just a few easy steps."
FINS has mined the video for the essential nuggets, a lot of which seem common sense--like emailing a thank-you note afterwards. None of this will really get you an edge at Goldman Sachs.
"Nowhere does the British woman narrating say anything about the complex intimidation sessions or brain busters we've come to understand one applying for a job at Goldman is put through, nor does she mention anything about the rule Shia LaBeouf shared, which is that when taken out to lunch you have 5 seconds to decide what you want or you're out of there," Dealbreaker opines. "In fact, the whole thing appears to be ripped from Interviewing for Dummies, offering pointers such as 'know the job you're applying for' and make sure you have directions before leaving your house."
My advice is to expect the worst--all kinds of mind games intended to figure out how you think. Microsoft really perfected this approach back in the day. Google has taken it to new heights. Goldman Sachs no doubt has as well.
